The Voice on the Tape

tape hiss, then a whisper underneath

The investigators recorded an empty room for an hour and heard nothing. On playback, beneath the silence, a voice answered questions they had only thought, not spoken. The last audible words, slowed down, were the technician's own home address, and the phrase: we are already there. They did not return to that house, nor to their own that night.
