How to sweep a room properly

  1. Start the meter in the middle of the room, standing still, and let it take its baseline.
  2. Walk the perimeter slowly, keeping the phone at chest height and level. Speed creates false spikes.
  3. Map the boring sources first — fuse box, fridge, TV, router, chargers. Everything left over is your data.
  4. Return to any spike from a different direction. A real field is still there; a movement artefact is not.
  5. Note the peak and the location, then repeat the sweep with the power off at the board if you can.

What EMF actually measures

Electromagnetic fields are produced by anything moving electric charge — mains wiring, motors, transformers, speakers, and the planet's own magnetic field underneath all of it. Old buildings read high because old wiring leaks; that is also, inconveniently, the kind of building people report hauntings in. High readings are worth investigating for a genuinely practical reason: sustained exposure to strong fields is one of the documented causes of unease, nausea and the feeling of being watched.

Is this EMF detector free?

Does it use my phone's real sensor?

Yes, where the browser allows it. It reads the magnetometer through the device's orientation sensor and measures deviation from a baseline taken when you start. If no magnetometer is exposed, it says so plainly and falls back to a motion-derived proxy rather than pretending.

Why does it not work on my iPhone or laptop?

Safari on iOS does not expose absolute magnetometer data to web pages, and most laptops have no magnetometer at all. On those devices the meter runs in proxy mode, which responds to movement rather than magnetic field. A native app has access a web page does not.

Can an EMF meter detect ghosts?

No. EMF meters detect electromagnetic fields, which come from wiring, appliances, motors, phones and the earth itself. There is no evidence linking field fluctuation to anything paranormal. This page is 18+ fiction for entertainment.

What causes readings to spike?

In a normal house: fuse boxes, unshielded wiring, microwaves, fridges, speakers, laptop chargers, underfloor heating and your own phone. Old buildings with cloth-wrapped wiring spike constantly, which is exactly why so many 'active' locations are old buildings.
