How to use a ouija board

A traditional sitting has rules, and this board keeps them. Ask one clear question at a time — the board answers vagueness with vagueness. Never ask for a name it should not know. Never ask when you will die; the answer is always a lie, and it always sticks. When you are finished, thank the board and let the planchette rest on GOODBYE.

Why the planchette moves

On a physical board the movement is the ideomotor effect: tiny unconscious muscle motions from the sitters, amplified by a light, well-balanced planchette. Nobody is pushing on purpose, and everybody is pushing. That is what makes it feel like something else is in the room. Here, the movement is code — but the reason the answer lands is the same one: you brought the question, and you will supply the meaning.

Questions from the threshold

Is this online ouija board free?

Yes. Ask as many questions as you like, with no account and no payment. The board runs entirely in your browser.

How does the planchette decide what to spell?

Your question seeds a deterministic pseudo-random sequence, so the same question asked the same way tends toward the same answer — the board feels consistent rather than random. Answers are drawn from a written vocabulary of replies, then spelled out letter by letter.

Is it safe to use a ouija board online?

This one is completely safe, because it is a piece of software. It contacts nothing. Traditional boards carry cultural and psychological weight for many people; a browser toy does not change that either way.

Can it really talk to spirits?

No. This is an 18+ work of fiction built for entertainment. No spirit is contacted and no message is received. The experience is the point.

Why does it sometimes spell GOODBYE?

Tradition. When the board decides the session is done, the planchette travels to GOODBYE and the sitting closes. Ask again to reopen it.
